Last fall, I was in a REALLY crazy place. I was in a job that was breaking me down, physically, mentally & emotionally and Nathan and I BOTH decided I needed to be done soon. But, financially we knew that I had to do something. I had my graphic design business & my blog, but I was so emotionally spent, that creativity was SHOT! I needed to harbor all my energy (or what was left after a day’s work) for my girls, because they DESERVED MORE! But, I couldn’t give more, because I had no more time to give.
A friend of mine, Jane, who I’d worked with in the past, invited me over to a Project Runway Party. I was in desperate need of some GIRL TIME (with girls above the age of 3), so I went. I had just received a pretty paycheck from some wedding goods I finished, so I was going to buy 1 thing for myself that night. I needed a pick-me-up!
Oh.My.Word. I had so much stinkin’ fun. We watched the show, and during commercials we played games. I specifically remember, I was so impressed with the INTEGRITY of the company, the LONGEVITY of the company, & the COMMUNITY! And then there was Heather, a girl younger than me, driving for free, personality-wise, we had a lot in common and she straight up asked me, what’s holding you back? Time! How could I fit this in with my 2 kids, job, church involvement, football season, etc. She asked, do any of those people have skin? Well, duh! Then she introduced me to her best friend, a doctor..with a successful MK business. I met other women that night with CRAZY lives just like mine..all ages, all shades & shapes & sizes and I realized what a community this was.
That night, I went home, and with the numbers I gathered for Nathan’s peace of mind, I texted Jane & joined right then! So, you know when God introduces you to things in your life, and when you look back, you realize he was preparing you for something else? My MK business picked up right away. It was great extra cash and it gave me the community I was missing. They supported me through tough times & celebrated with me through the good times. This last spring, my husband and I decided to purchase a local feed business in our community. And like many new business owners, getting paid doesn’t happen right away. So, I committed to cover a bill…Childcare was our biggest expense. In June, I needed to earn $1450 to cover my $720 childcare bill. So I committed. I told my director my goal. I contacted customers, booked appointments….I PUT THE WORK IN, and I earned it. I had not felt true genuine SUCCESS in a very LONG time, and Mary Kay gave me back self confidence that had been missing for years, so July I worked at it again. And now in August I am working at it again. Because I can work my business EXACTLY how I want it!
My Mary Kay business has allowed me to meet some incredible women, to pamper and energize women, and this October, I get to work my business around a trip to Greece to visit my best friend who works in a Safe House to rehabilitate women getting out of sex trafficking. I GET TO PAMPER THEM! What!?
I get to set goals to pay bills for my family, so we can pay things off quicker and start dreaming about building our first house! I get to spend time with my girls at HOME! I am rediscovering the person God created me to be. And you know Mary Kay didn’t do all of that; I believe God did, but I DO believe Mary Kay was a pretty BIG spark that started the fire.
So you better believe that if I get a chance to share my MK Story with someone in hopes that they can have the same amazing experience, I’m GOING TELL IT! God is at work in Mary Kay, and when God is working you better JOIN HIM!
So, you tell me! What’s holding you back from starting your own Mary Kay business?
